Jackie Frank
Editor/Publisher, marie claire
Jackie Frank entered the magazine world more than 20 years ago, working in the fashion department of Harper’s Bazaar Australia. This proved to be the springboard for a dazzling career in international magazines, working with the world’s top photographers and models as fashion editor of British Elle, then adapting to the frenetic pace of New York to work on American Elle and Mademoiselle magazines.
Already an avid reader of international editions of marie claire, Jackie was poached by the Brits, who created for her the position of New York-based Fashion Editor for the multi-award winning British marie claire.
Her association with British marie claire, plus her intimate knowledge of the American magazine market, meant that Jackie was called upon to play an integral role on the launch of the US edition of marie claire, a magazine that has proved a phenomenal success since its inception. At the same time, Jackie continued with the UK edition until early 1995, when she was asked to return to Australia as editor of the soon-to-be launched Australian marie claire.
marie claire’s phenomenal success is a direct result of the vision, commitment and passion of Jackie Frank. Since its launch in August 1995, she has created an editorial line-up that informs, inspires and entertains readers each month, making it Australia’s number one fashion magazine for more than a decade.
In 2005, Jackie Frank was made the first Australian Publisher of marie claire magazine, and now holds the role of both Editor and Publisher of marie claire. Also in 2005, Jackie won the prestigious Editor of the Year award from the industry body, the Magazine Publishers of Australia. The judges said: “Jackie Frank not only keeps marie claire on top of its game and at the top of its field, but has done so for a decade”.
Jackie also appears on Channel Seven’s Sunrise show, in the regular “All Stars” segment. More recently she offered her fashion knowledge and expert opinion as a judge on Channel 7’s reality show, Make Me a Supermodel.
The magazine has won 38 awards for excellence, including Magazine of the Year and General Excellence Lifestyle from the Magazine Publishers of Australia.
With 27 editions worldwide, marie claire is now read by 14 million women in 26 countries every month.
