Entry Title: Release the Butterflies

I was truly inspired by the Children’s Medical Research Institute's 50 years of work, and believe that it is an achievement worth celebrating. Releasing butterflies is a way in which anniversaries of all kinds are celebrated in many countries of the world.

Entry Title: 50th Anniversary NASA Light

My light is created with 20 pairs of recycled jeans that have been silkscreen printed with '50' made with the number 5 and the outline of a planet or circle making the zero. It contains a low energy florescent light in the centre and 50 low energy LED lights around the outside representing the night sky and telecommunications - just like the first satellites.

Entry Title: Peace’s

Series of three stools which combine to form the Peace symbol. This piece of furniture was inspired by the 50th Anniversary of the Nuclear Disarmament Movement Symbol which later became recognised as the 'PEACE' Symbol. The stools will also feature other iconic symbols which have been used by other peace movements in the past fifty years. These will also provide that little splash of gold.

Entry Title: Salt n Pepper

Our creation to mark 50 years of Lego symbolising the great advances black and white relations have experienced worldwide over this time. To live in harmony side by side or they can interlock and open up to reveal a heart of gold.

Entry Title: Captains Chair

My inspiration came from one of our most successful cricket captains in Richie Benaud. He is also regarded as our most respected commentator on the game. 2008 marks 50 years since he was first appointed captain of our national side. Richie is such an icon I couldn't think of a more worthy person to honour in this celebration of gold

Entry Title: Legold

We chose Lego as our theme as they are celebrating 50 years in 2008. We grew up on Lego as it tested our imagination to build something from nothing. Our trade of upholstery is a bit like that where we can build or recover a piece of furniture in a short space of time. The idea of building a lounge to resemble Lego blocks really appealed to us for the variety of combinations we can arrange. Each piece can also be used as stand alone footstools. Our piece in fact came from playing with Lego until we arrived at our final design.

Entry Title: 50 Years Together

Symbolising 50 years of Jeans for Genes through simplicity.

The design idea is centered around the notion that a simple pair of jeans can form a chair with no modification to the garment. The design uses a pair of jeans as the bracing member supporting two timber legs.

Any pair of jeans can be used to form the chair, however, without the jeans; the chair does not function but rather becomes two separate timber legs. This design captures the integral nature that the jeans play in creating the chair structure, much like the Jeans for Genes Day is integral in providing much needed funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute.

Entry Title: The Seat of Your Pants

Inspired by those who get off the seat of their pants and make a difference!
The Seat Of Your Pants is fun, functional and sustainable! Cutting up old jeans cuts back on waste, which helps our children live in a better world.
As we celebrate the past 50 years, now is the time look ahead at the next 50 years. Let's re-use, re-invent and re-think how we live, work and play so that our children can enjoy fresh air, water and our beautiful planet. It can be used as either display or seating. It can double as a stackable wall to create an eye-catching room display that will happily host pin-ups, posters and photographs.

Entry Title: Rococo

My inspiration comes from the Rococo Period, an opulent French style well represented by "A splash of Gold" and "Celebrations". It is a fun piece but at the same time grand enough for a 50th year celebration.
